7Seeds Anticipation

Quote:
Retailer Rakuten's listing for the January 2019 issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Flowers magazine features a cover image that reveals that Yumi Tamura's 7SEEDS manga is inspiring an anime adaptation by Netflix. The magazine will ship on Wednesday.
Plot Summary
Quote:
The original series centers on Natsu, who suddenly wakes up one day to find herself in the middle of the ocean. She's with six other strangers, and none of them remember how they got into their current situation. They end up stranded on an island, where a "guide" explains to them that they are part of a government project to cryogenically preserve groups of people to ensure humanity's survival after scientists predicted the destruction of the world. Natsu's group finds that they are in Japan after a catastrophe, and must learn how to survive in their new post-apocalyptic reality.

Very well-regraded shoujo here. Too bad it’s Netflix, especially given that the manga is 35 volumes and they don’t have a reputation for producing long manga adaptations.

well, taking into account that it is a true original Netflix and not just a licensing, they can split by seasons.

Thanks and “too bad” are not mutually exclusive. Absolutely, thanks to Netflix for signing on here if indeed it was the only way we’d ever get an adaptation. But I’d still rather see 7Seeds as a more traditional production that had a chance to receive a longer adaptation. Basara was already pretty much a dumpster fire because it got one cour (and that was like 20 years ago).

Also - Gonzo? Oy...

They probably won't unless it's insanely popular, which if they stick closely to the source material.....it probably won't be. 7 Seeds is a great story but to say it moves slowly is an understatement. It's not really meant to be an action packed survival story, and I'm willing to bet that will be Netflix's marketing of it anyway just to pull in some viewers.

Kid oriented animations aren't as big of a loss leader, because Netflix is the modern babysitter. But Netflix produced anime and more adult oriented animation in general tends to be more "one and done". This is even more likely due to Netflix being more aggressive about cancelling shows that under perform.

Basically, when you see stuff like Castlevania getting more episodes, you can be assured that it waaaaay outperformed expectations. Or someone has a pet project and money to burn.

But who knows? It will be interesting to see the trailers closer to release.

As someone whose ONLY manga collections are Adachi's English works and Legend of Basara, 7seeds getting an adaptation makes me happy. Even Naobu voicing the main heroine isn't going to deter me, and even though Netflix is funding it and it may even be 3dcg, but honestly this was NOT going to have a full 'regular' adaptation with it now being almost 2 years since the manga ended. Something is better than nothing, even if it may end up turning as "bad" as the Basara anime lol.

So this dropped on Netflix and I watched the first episode.

"Well, that guy needs to die first"
"Or maybe that guy needs to die first."
"Oh, so that guy ignored the advice on the only person in this show who seems to have any sense, and ate the deadly mushroom because Kawaii Girl picked it. Lucky he only had a taste so only nearly died"

I'm sitting this one out for now.
