(December 2015) Koukaku no Pandora - Ghost Urn

Plot Summary:
Quote:
It is an age when large-scale natural disasters frequently happen all over the world. It is a time when cyborgs and autonomous robots are beginning to appear on the market in technologically advanced nations. Major world powers compete for technology and resources. The divide between rich and poor grows and the future for the poor looks bleak. In this transitional stage, everyone wanders around in a self-indulgent daze and the way out isn't clear... This is the story of how two cybernetically enhanced girls meet in such an era. Koukaku no Pandora is the new action packed manga series by Koshi Rikudo, based on an original story by Masamune Shirow.
Koukaku no Pandora (Pandora of the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn) is getting an anime adaptation.

You're kidding, right? This series is getting an anime?

Not that I mind. I actually like the manga, I eve read the raws. But still, I'm pretty surprised. I didn't think it was popular enough to get an adaptation. I'm glad I was wrong. It's a pretty weird series, with a lot of loli fanservice and whatnot. Definitely not for everyone, but still sorta entertaining... or something. lol

EDIT: Oh, snap. It's an event anime. Wait, what the hell is an event anime?

Hmm...count me also surprised at this one getting an anime. Not really my cup of tea, but...well, we'll see.

Could an event anime be an anime shown at a specific event (blindly guessing here).

They often make full series after this event animes. And it's manga by Shirow Masamune so count me interested.

It's based on a story by Shirow but the actual manga is done by someone else.

I am hoping this isn't going to turn out like Aldnoah "Urobutcher only wrote the first 3 epsiodes" Zero.

It's normal than one person makes the story and other one draws the pictures for the manga. It didn't make him uninvolved.

That's not what happened in this case. This is a manga by Rikudo (both art and story) based on an original concept by Shirow.

Originally, Shirow wanted to write the story himself, but it seems the publisher rejected the project.

Oh. Is that so? I saw MAL listing Shirow as the writer and Rikudo as the artist, so I thought it's the general case.

MAL can't be trusted. The whole thing is explained in the afterword in the tankobon.

Comic walker (serialization site for the manga) and k-pandora.com (official sote for this event anime) both have Shirow as original concept (原案) and Rikudo as the original author (原作 in the anime site, 著者 in comic walker).

and I have just checked vol.1 afterwords, it said the manga were intended as a anime project and ask Shirow to write script but the anime project get suspended due to numerous reason. He claim the reason why he does not draw the manga himself is because his art style is already "quite old" and would be affected by existing works like Ghost in the Shell which would make the story lacking a sense of brightness and joyfulness plus as he have a "bad habit" of raising lots of annoying sophistry thus he feel if he draw the series himself then the series would be heavier than its original intention. Thus he only tell a rough plot flow and basic character setting to Rikudo and hope he can work under a very high degree of freedom.

Thus I would say most of the actual story is done under Rikudo's work.

btw, anyone interested in starting a thread for the manga?

There's a thread for that already.
