the direct translation is "movement", but in the case of gundams "mechine powered movement".. its hard to translate since there really is not single word in english to match its meaning.. mobile is a good word to descirb it since it contains both the meaning and it sounds cool.. gj for the guy who thought it up..

Well, it means "mechanized" to me since I read the first word as "machine" and the second as "movement". i.e. its "Machine Movement" if you want to read that directly.

Of course, that's in Chinese, but as I understand it, you can literally a large portion of Japanese kanji as Chinese.
