OMG that movie was freaking awesome. Watched two movies in a row (Incredibles and Saw) and though I loved Incredibles, I'm still aglow from watching Saw. Already told my parents I'm taking them to watch it for my stepfather's birthday in a couple weeks since he loves these kinds of movies. Best horror movie I've seen in a long time...Reminds me of a time when I didn't have to rely on survival horror games to get my horror fix, freaking fantastic...

You're misunderstanding his motivation in that scene. He wanted the phone to know if his wife and kid were really dead. When it started to sink in that he may have lost them he got desperate for one last chance to save them. After all, he didn't go for the phone after he was done hacking off the old foot now did he? He went for the gun. As for the closet your reasoning makes sense (in reality), but I can think of a few reasons to not put it in there. 1) It's gotta be a little freaky to think that when your kid says there is someone in their room that you might miss something, though obviously the closet is a bit much. Though it does give him a good entrance into the room later. 2) It would likely have landed on the editing room floor to shorten the scene and the movie and likely just been an extended scene on the dvd release. Can't recall that scene exactly but did we even see the whole scene to begin with? I half think she was already in bed when they showed the scene with her and Gordon in her bedroom...

He shot him in the shoulder. He spent his only bullet in a last ditch effort to save his family and still he tried to prevent Adam's death. If Jigsaw had called his bluff, and seen that he hadn't really killed him, he would have lost his last chance to save his family. He took some pretty big risks with his family's lives to keep Adam alive. Besides I think he asked him not to leave him because he didn't want to be left there, not because he had grown attached to Gordon or anything.

It's just speculation but I doubt Jigsaw ever went to Gordon's house and would need proof that the plan was going along as planned.

Shaun of the Dead was great, if you love old school Romero zombie movies and/or the whole English comedy stuff you'd love it. Though if you haven't already seen it you might be hard pressed to find it now. Very limited release I think.

that's a nice thing to say... but no, the acting was on par with a 1980's thrasher film. The academy award for best actor probably isn't going to anyone here. ^_^;;

i'll tell you what i told the guy you are repling to: The guy in the closet is wearing a sheet with 2 eye holes over his entire body. When daddy does check the closet, the guy in there only has to lie down and pretend to be a pile of rags. The killer was very genius in his sadism and his hunting. A good hunter doesn't just hide behind a bush, he hides behind it and makes himself look like part of the bush. The hunter here hid in the closet and looked like he was part of the closet. Jigsaw uses hunting tactics throughout the movie, i don't see how it seems unrealistic for him (or in this case, some guy he is controling) to be able to hide in plain view.

nope, jigsaw wouldn't ask that because he wouldn't be able to confirm anything, he was pretening to be dead the entire time. It isn't like he could call him up on a cell phone. And having a ear piece would have completely blown his cover when all that loud screaming was going on.

And besides, I doubt the doctor would be able to confirm his daugher's heartbeat from any other, so it wouldn't be a very good scare tactic to call him up, say nothing, and put a fast heartbeat on the phone.

That was clearly an act of cruelty to feed personal sadism. Being forced to do something you don't want to do doesn't make you a saint. Even a pedophile can be forced to do something they don't want to do and still be a pedophile.

Didn't the heartbeat scene take place right after he'd came out of the closet and tied them up? That would be before the scene in the bathroom where Jigsaw was playing possum. He still had to kidnap the doctor and the photographer. I just think at some point before setting up the bathroom scenario he had to check to make sure the other guy had in fact done his part and kidnapped Gordon's wife and daughter. Remember there was a picture of Gordon's wife and daughter tied up in Gordon's wallet so there was definetly a sizable time gap between the two events. Not saying you're wrong or anything just think my theory is plausible as well.

ah, yes, that is true, there was definately time, although it is hard to say what chronological order it happened considering the flashbacks rolled together with realtime... but if jigsaw had a picture of them, wouldn't a heartbeat be meaningless?

Not neccesarily, Jigsaw was very thorough in his planning so maybe that was just a way to make sure the one guy wasn't just pretending to hold the wife and kid and the picture wasn't just them acting. He certainly took steps to make sure Adam and Gordon couldn't fake him out w/ the electricity. Also there was a picture of the guy looking out the window at Gordon's house that took place after he'd tied them up and checked the little girl's heartbeat mixed in with the rest of Adam's photos in the bathroom. I imagine that would mean that he may have checked that the family was already taken care of before kidnapping Gordon and Adam. Probably never know for sure till the dvd comes out and we get a director's commentary or something.

A fully grown adult hiding in a closet using a sheet with 2 eye holes? urrr yeah.. i could be dead drunk and i'd still be able to spot someone hiding in a closet like that.

this movie had a few plot holes. i didn't like how the doc finally broke down in the very end when he was so methodical during the entire movie. then again, i am not a psychologist so my assumptions can't be validated. But he knew he couldn't do anything at all since he was trapped down there already with the time limit gone, the struggle going on over the phone, and with close to no chance of him helping his wife and daughter. The phone was ringing madly. He should have checked the phone first to make sure. Had he done that, he would have realized his wife and kids were safe. Hell, with the cell phone on, they could have tracked him back down to wherever he was being stashed. I dunno.

The movie was real entertaining though. Just not very believable.

he probably wasn't standing up or facing him with his eyes at the time. Ninjas in ancient japan could easily position their body so their silouette could be confused for a rock or a bush... a lumpy pile of rags seems a bit easier to mimic.
