The question is, how deep/involved is your online life?
Most of my free time is spent online... it wouldn't be that much of an exaggeration to say "all".

Do you just casually post on message boards, and check your email, or do you live 3/4 of your life online?

Are you drastically different in RL than you portray yourself online?
I'm much more arrogant and bold online than I am in real life... I used to be incredibly shy. Actually, the Internet has made me less shy, I do think.

iAnother question, how much, if at all, do you value "net friends"? Is it healthy to be mainly social active online?
It only takes five seconds to type out "you're a fag" and seriously insult someone on the Internet, so I generally only make friends with very mature people. If you are my friend on this message board, you know who you are

Well, in america, the messenger thats most popular is AIM(America online). So your analysis is somewhat wrong. Well, I go to high school and have a part-time job. So i can't stay online as long as i want. But i do find time to get on. But not as much as everyone else posting except maybe Razor_2mb. And my computer is crappy, so i can't play most of the recent games out there. I am more of a console gamer anyway.

Hmm, alot of my free time is spent online or at the PC, As far as my hobbies go, I watch a bit TV (only the news, footbal (soccer) and political programs), I do like to enjoy getting lost in nearby forests (which means I love to take walks for a few hours), I'm also into language studies which require quite some time, and I read ALOT of books. Apart from that I also go out for a beer with friends or go over to them for some socialising .... So let's say 1/3 of my free time is spent online.

I'm always checking several message boards on a daily basis, it gives alot more options to discuss things you like with people who feel the same, especially since my friends aren't interested in politics or anime at all. Like I said, about 1/3 to sometimes 1/2 of my free time is spent online,

I have a few friends that I've met online and known for a long time, I value these net friends alot, in fact some of them have become real friends, since we visited each other allready. Apart from that I have/had alot of gaming buddies, these are often more casual relationships, when you stop playing the game, you loose sight of them. I'd say any social activity has its value as long as the internet isn't your only scial activity I don't see a problem.

The internet is a big part of my life. I start to feel restricted if I'm without a connection for extended periods of time. I suppose that is a form of addiction. I also spend most of my free time online, either surfing, posting of playing games.

I'm pretty much the same online as I am in real life. I just don't express my opinions as strongly in real life to avoid being hated by half of the people I meet daily.

In my opinion, online friends can be just as important as real life friends. The only difference is you can only meet them "in the other world".

Lets see. Right now I'm deployed, and my job is mainly to keep the computers running, maintain the webpage, update users, etc. So, my work is like 90% online. Also, I spend the rest of the time talking to friends and family back home, watching anime, surfing, or whatever. Only time I ever leave is to eat and work out. X|

I also spend a lot of my time online (forums, online games, reading).
I am an antisocial person in real life and in the forums. I read much more then I post.
But like others here I do not watch a lot TV anymore...

I spend much of my free time online, and i should say that the internet plays quite a significant role in my life. I use it to browse through forums, like this, download media that entertains me, play online games, chat, check my email, and the like.

I do have an internet persona. My online "self" is much more polite and expressive, since i have the luxury of checking over what i say before i say it. I usually don't make the rash, unnecessary comments that i make in RL, and i'm generally a nicer person. Another thing that is good about the internet is that you are annonymous. No one on this forum (excluding the 2 or 3) actually knows me, so i can be whoever i want to be.

And i do value online friends. Half my friends are online only. Sometimes, i like my online friends a bit more than my RL friends... although i can't do the same cool stuff that i do with my RL friends. Just one of the downsides i guess.

Yeah, so thats how my life is online.

Due to my job I no longer have a social life (work nights, with moday / tuesday off). So I perty much use the internet for most every thing currently.

My online and offline persona is quite close to the same. Although, I have noticed with written speach, all people tend to sound more intellectual. I belive that is more due to the fact you think and plan out your wording much more when writing. As oposed to just blurting the first thing that coes to mind out.

When I worked a some what normal shift I used to have a more active social life, but still quite in what most people would call the geek calabur. I did such activities as played lazer tag at an arena. Went to LAN parties, some of which I helped organize. ect.

But as of late, the internet is my social life, entertainment, research source, news outlet, shopping mall, TV, bank, xxx store, school, game center, ect.

It's there.. so I use it alot. I enjoy communicating on forums, aim, etc. I read all my news online, I don't bother with a newspaper anymore. I play online games once in a while.

But am I hooked to it? Certiantly not. I'd have no problem tomarow if the internet was done all day...I'd go out and do something, socialize with real people, have fun. However.. I'm amused while on the internet. Who's to tell me it's wrong to stay in my room sitting in front of the computer. I'm happy while I'm doing it (98% of the time at least). Nor would I have a problem with just getting up and walking away from my computer, never using the internet again. I can esaily maintain a high status in a socail life outside the internet and have fun, go out and do things. But I don't, because the internet keeps me busy, and it's easier than going out and doing things. So yes, on the surface I'm what most people would probably call an anti socail geek. But sometimes, it's just a totaly different story. The way I do it, is I keep a close nit group of freinds who I do all the crazy stuff with, and for the most part, everyone else who I don't talk to thinks I'm a loser.... untill they get a chance to hang out with me, if they do.

Anti-Socail by nature.. Don't get me wrong, I love people, love being around them, but I just don't seek them out. Come to me, and you'll have a fun time.
Otherwise, I'll stay online untill I feel like being around real people.

This is during the school year...

Summer = Overtime working, and wandering around. I rarely am home during the summer to gain access to the internet. I'm litteraly a bum during the summer.. you never know where I'll end up at night.

internet has become my workplace, store, book, tv, friend, club, etc. all those things put together in one place make's it nice , however i dont know how much interaction whit the internet is healty , i see people that have almost all of their life's in the internet.. have meet people over the internet and consider them best friends , im not saying there is anything wrong whit it , u can see the toughts of people in here but .. as any reflexion the bad things still here, and good things still out there , i stay in my pc most of the time but i know that out there are good things too, just have to serch for them .. dont know why .. but cant shake the feeling that most of the people that dont interact whitout the internet is becouse of they'r layzines and lack of trust .( i supose that in the internet you might be more hiden/protected that you are out there )
