"Maid in Akihabara"
I ran across this in another forum and I thought some here might like to see it.
There are 6 120 meg. 15 min. episodes, so it not too large. And while it is a rather low budget appearing show, it is rather amusing and has a fun time with Maid cafes and otakudom. Quote:

hehe. Sounds kind of like a different twist on the "maid in america" movie from a few years back when a rich girl has to become a maid for several days to learn humility . I'm definately going to download this.

Well, I downloaded ep.1, watched it and... will stop there.
No comment needed, I guess. The actresses aren't even cute. I don't mind the high voices in an anime, but in live action, that's unbearable. Then it's cheap, but in the worst meaning. I think that would make laugh ( bitterly) only those guys roaming in Akiba. Not the common people, like us all. Aren't we???

Well, now I'm pissed off. Someone gave me bad reputation over my post...
Hey, what's wrong with giving your opinion? Well, I know I was rather blunt on this one, but hey, that's how I am... Sigh... First time I get bad rep. It hurts. lol Sorry to Sakaki if I hurt him too.

I wouldn't say it was constructive, but... Well, ok I was wrong. It's not like I never gave bad rep myself. But I always add comments. I guess it's like being f..., the first time is always painful.

First 5 minutes into the first episode and going by the main actresses face and look, I would have to agree with Raphael that it DEFINITELY isn't right for her to be speaking in a typical anime-ish high pitched voice. it's so out of place that I have to avert my gaze away from her face whenever she speaks. Still the Akihabara setting is what's drawing me to this so I'm gonna keep watching.

I think that based on this statement: Quote:
But then again this is the staff of a real maid cafe: so they are really not that far off on looks. |

I think I've one of these girls on a miniDV tape when I went Japan last year. She walked on the street in Akihabara. There's also an arcade hall on one of the intersections near the JR-station with women dressed like maids coming out of a manga.
I'll try to find which digitalized file it was and will upload it somewhere ... It's rather short as I walked by filming ^^' |

Let's see:
- The voice itself wasn't so bad, I thought. It sounds like a very natural voice--it just doesn't sound like HER natural voice. - The acting. is. Horrible. I half-blame the director. - Trying to create "anime" style moments with effects and slapstick does NOT work. Even when it might, it's ruined by... - Lousy editing. They hang on to shots for way, WAY too long. Moments which might have been funny if they were cut away from quickly are turned into painful-to-watch scenes just by letting it linger on that shot. Remember: It's usually better to cut too soon than too late. I cannot stand it. But I will watch it for one reason, and one reason only: SEXY COMMANDO. This man belongs on much better shows. His presence is captivating and his performance is tight and enthusiastic. He is absolutely perfect. |
