Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: First Kiss wa Owaranai
The August issue of Kadokawa's Newtype magazine announced on Friday that Aka Akasaka's Kaguya-sama: Love is War series is getting an anime film titled Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: First Kiss wa Owaranai (Kaguya-sama: Love is War: The First Kiss Never Ends), adapting the manga's story arc of the same name. The arc takes place after the end of the anime's third season.

Honestly this turning into a movie instantly got an "oh no" reaction from me. Shows turning to anime movies for arcs is the absolute worst thing. The animation bump is nice, but regularly not worth having to wait maybe a year after the thing airs to get to see it. Definitely sounds like it makes sense for this to fit within a movie structure. And I don't think there's any real chance that season 4 doesn't happen. But it's not the ideal situation. Obviously it's all win/win in Japan. But for viewers outside of Japan it's not good news.

I got my wish granted. Yay!
Regarding Season 4, I don't think it's impossible, but I certainly think it's less likely now. The thing is, where the movie will end, even if they skip 10 chapters ahead like I want them to or not, Season 4 has to do the shitty thing the manga did which was "Now let's turn back the time and see what the others did during Christmas". I don't care, just move on. They could very well start with Miyuki and Kaguya related content, but they still have to go back to the others for 2-3 episodes. It's just unfortunate source material problem that would make the adaptation wonky. This aside, Season 4 definitely won't air before the movie comes out on BD, so that won't be an issue. |

I think the Quintuplet movie did very well so I think there's definitely a chance this will .

And season 4 is happening. That's the only definite thing. No matter what content in it got people grumpy, they are still going to animate it. The franchise is well and truly solid at this point and brings in money. They'll keep making seasons and cover both the stuff people love and the stuff they don't.

Think of Kimetsu. Did Season 2 air perhaps before the movie came out on BD or aired on TV, simulcasted million times? No. Not just in Japan, but in the major foreign countries too, the multilangual BD came out before Season 2.
When it comes to money, you have to dish out the facts. I already have my proof that the franchise declines year by year even if it's still considered "big" by many. Therefore, it's up to the property holders if it worth adapting further, let alone making it complete in the next 4-6 years. A movie already makes a crack in the pacing where I assume Season 4 at the earliest will debut in 2024. Meanwhile, the manga basically ends in 3 months if there are no breaks. A "full" adaptation needs 6 seasons. |

News came out that the movie will air this Winter in Japan. Certainly way faster than I could have expected. Continuity chances increased or they want to conclude things as quickly as possible because the staff will be moving on to different projects. Time will tell.
An earlier article also mentioned that it will air on television after a special screening. |

Well, was hoping that this would hit a theater remotely close to where I'm at. Sadly it doesn't look like that will be the case. Which was a worry and one reason I still kind of hate anime movie announcements.
Will just have to hope it turns up online eventually. Can't say I'll wait for the BD since Aniplex is so utterly lazy with this series. Season 2 doesn't even have a western BD release yet. May just have to read the manga covering that portion.

In case there are others like me who didn't notice, the movie (split into four episodes) is on CR now.
It was a great adaptation as usual. Seeing Kaguya-chan and Ice Kaguya animated was fun. I want to say it was a nice ending but they ended it on a sort of cliffhanger. I'm definitely not going to watch anything that comes after that though. Kaguya-sama anime ends here for me.

Watched it last week. Same here for me. I am not sure I want to see the furthewr plot adapted (as either way romantic plotlines only got some conclusion in extra chapters). I'll better steak with Oshi no Ko now.

I feel like this went harder into her multiple personality disorder but the way the movie wrapped up, it was kind of forced. That's not necessarily a bad thing, she still has to live with it and adapt or grow. I do actually want to see them in at least more serious relationship rather than just end when it's beginning to become that.
Definitely want the next leg of the story after this myself. 8/10
