I think that's a fine sentiment, but Shirou knows someone who probably tried but couldn't do it. And Archer had, at the very least, led some kind of a life that allowed him to become a Servant. So there's a chance that he may know more about this issue than Shirou.

So I don't think, "Screw you..." is the appropriate response, especially if he's only doing it just to follow in someone else's footsteps.
