Oh OK so Kuro is another illya that was suppressed when she was a child because her parents decided and represents the illya that was born to be the holy grail for the war. OK, that sounds norm...
WAIT WHAT?!? THE HOLY GRAIL WAR EXISTS IN THIS UNIVERSE? Why aren't you telling us more? Why?!?!

Kuro was still born as the holy grail, but it was never allowed to be used in the Holy Grail war due to Mom and Dad stepping in. The power of the holy grail was sealed which by apparent accident sealed the being known as Kuro which gave birth to the current Illya instead who replaced her. So from a certain point of view Illya did steal Kuro's life from her, though it's obviously not her fault.
As Illya had said during the end of this episode this all could of been avoided....but at least it seems Kuro is no longer an antagonist. |

God dammit!! You aren't supposed to give me so many feels.
Incredible voice acting by Kuro's VA during the monologue and subsequent interaction. Action scenes are awesome as always. Iri's part was handled well, IMO. They didn't give her any more dialogue than necessary. Very good episode.

Lots of revelations this episode, though I have no idea where its all going to lead.
What did Kuro mean about being a good cheater, and eliminating process? And where did her being able to teleport come from? Not sure how the holy grail war fits into all this.

As I understand it she isn't teleporting, she's just moving really really really fast.

Great fight once again. I'm loving dynamic camera movements Silver Link is incorporating into the fights. It makes the action look a lot more impressive.
The exposition was very interesting. Most of it was already known by F/SN fans, but there are a few key differences with the F/SN universe that made Prisma Illya possible: - The Einzberns closed themselves off from the outside world to work on their grail research and apparently never asked for the Makiri and the Tohsaka's help. As a result, the birth of the holy grail war was delayed. The one ten years ago would have been the first. - Illya was born 10 years and 8 months ago, instead of 18 years ago. - Kiritsugu made the right decision this time around and chose his family over his wish. He killed the Einzberns and most likely every other person that may have been involved in the HGW. I felt pretty bad for Kuro. The past ten years must have been hell for her. From her point of view, Illya really did steal her life. Her action were extreme, but her grudge toward Illya was understandable. She may be extremely smart and knowledgeable but at the end of the day she's a ten year old as well, it's normal that she was so confused over what she really wanted to do. I'm glad they found a way for her to coexist with Illya. The solution was surprisingly simple: just have her become Illya's sister (they call her her cousin but she's more of a sister). Now she'll be able to enjoy the same lifestyle as Illya. Iri is kind of a terrible mom. She didn't apologize to Kuro and didn't even try to help her when she was disappearing. I mean, damn, at least hug her or something! I wonder how Kerry would react to all this. Chiwa Saitou's performance in this episode was terrific, but that's to be expected from her. Kuro's speech was really heartfelt.

I was kind of amazed by how unhelpful Irisviel was here really. I mean yeah she stopped the fight, but that's about it. She had nothing to say really about her and Kiritsugu sealing away Illya's memories (and thus Kuro) or really anything. Just basically said that the Eizenburn's are gone, there's no Grail Wars, and that's about it. Thanks for stopping by I guess. Heck even Illya was the one who stepped in to get Kuro to save herself.
Certainly I can see how Kuro went nuts at various points in this season. The pure anger and resentment from what was done was just bubbling there. Probably her greatest anger was directed at her parents, but Illya also made sense and was a more available target at the time. A good episode for Illya as well. She really made an effort with Kuro here. It didn't go smoothly, but she really tried. And in the end she was the one who pushed Kuro to help save herself. Despite everything, she didn't want her to disappear. I don't expect things to be perfect with them, but it's a huge leap in terms of that relationship improving.

When she is in real danger like with the Assassins and Saber the original Illya personality surfaces. Kuro was Illya's Id. She likes Shirou, she wants a normal life. But Illya as of now is the Ego which is why Illya plays frequently the straight man and is hesitant at times. If Kuro did not split off due to both their wishes being granted I can see Illya in the future showing signs of DID like some other Typemoon characters. |
