Our story truly began not with Shido Itsuka, but SHINji Takamiya, who even back then ended up caught up in Space Quakes with hot naked Spirit women he couldn't just leave alone

Mana back when she was Shinji's only little sis! Still cute as a button and devoted to her brother, though I have to wonder what "sin" she thinks he committed when she found a woman wearing nothing but his jacket in their house .

Shinji knew how to fall for the charms of cute Spirits, and equally charm them in return, and he also knew how to name them even back then, thus giving Mio her name and adopting her into their family! And she immediately gravitated to Shinji for giving her an identity and accepting her .

Shin wasn't just Reina's nickname for Shido or her because she was a quirky-sleep deprived assistant...it was what she called Shinji when she was Mio. Even her precious bear plush is something Shinji gave her .

Wow, getting a love confession from Mio already! No wonder Shinji wanted to immediately go on a date with her. It's kind of surreal watching him work up the courage to ask her out, the first girl he ever asked out before going on dates with cute girls literally became his job, and Mio equally wanted to go out with Shin. There is nothing more cute in this world than Mio realizing Shin returned her affections .

Mana's BFF Haruko? She looks a lot like Kotori. She even has a lollipop in her mouth. Is she Kotori's real big sister ?

Mio looks absolutely gorgeous in that white dress and her and Shinji's date is great, spending time on the beach and dancing together on the waves even when they get wet...might've even kissed too if not for Mio sneezing .

Of course no one knows how to ruin a date like Westcott when he and his men find Mio, though Shinji finally fully realizes Mio is no ordinary woman when she princess carries him to safety and heals his wounds .

So were Westcott, Elliot, and their people who released Mio? And Westcott wanted to use her but Elliot wanted her to just be happy, setting up the divide that would turn them into enemies and forming their own organizations ?

Even before he was Shido, Shinji would never abandon a Spirit or give up on her, even at the cost of his life. Equally so that the Spirits who love him...don't take it well when he gets hurt in front of him, causing Mio to induce a Space Quake that destroys pretty much everything in her vicinity (what did Westcott transform into though?). And then she absorbs Shinji's dead body (via their first kiss) to resurrect him...which begs a lot of questions .

So, Mio learns about date and her name from Shin. Mana's best friend is Kotori's mother. Then, Kotori should call Shin uncle instead of big brother.

Spoiler for not sure what to react:

FYI this is exactly what I was spoiled. Mio being taken in by the Takamiya family (though it was actually just Shinji and Mana), falling in love with Shinji, and then destroying the town when he was killed.

IIRC she outright calls him Shinji when she first meets him, and then eventually settles on Shin.

Haruko is totally Kotori's mother. One thing that's easy to overlook is that Shinji refers to the first spacequake as being a recent incident, meaning this flashback took place around thirty years ago. This explains why Elliot looks so much older in the present, though as shown in the previous episode he can apparently also go back to being younger like Wescott and Ellen.
Also means Mana remained on ice for a very long time.

Not exactly. She called him Shintaro (which was a joke) and then settled to Shin, to have a logical explanation if someone would ask questions.

30 years later they don't look this much alike anymore.

Due to DEM doing, which is why she has not that much time left. Normally she should be around 44/45.

The resemblance was definitely uncanny back then...

I misremembered!

We've never seen the Itsukas in the show though, have we? I wonder if Haruko ever noticed Shido grew up to look exactly like her best friend's brother. A reunion with Mana would be interesting, but it's not like Mana remembers her, so...

It also puts Reine's entire relationship with Kotori in a new light if she knew her mother.

Definitely. But you would still see a connection today.
Spoiler for Kotori parents:

Fun fact btw. Since there was the possibility to include it. Shinji best friend was Kotoris dad. One could say, he is the tonomachi of the past.

Unfortunately we have not, even though there was an opportunity for it and introduce them. The thing you are looking for exists, but I doubt we will see.

Mio sought out to revive the man she loved, Shinji, and in doing so she gave birth to him...with her power inside of him to protect her, but bit by bit so he could contain it. And that is why she spread out the Sephirah until they ended up in the bodies of the Spirits they know today, and all the while Shido was sealing them and absorbing their powers, he was fulfilling Mio's plan the entire time .

THEY KILLED KURUMI!? Mio just killed her!? I just...I can't believe it. And in her last moments she thought of protecting Shido .

(Also apparently all Spirits killed by Mio and have their Sephirah seed absorbed end up naked...which tracks )

Kotori notices the obvious resemblance between Mio and Reine, but it doesn't make the betrayal hurt any less. Reine appreciates Kotori, but she's an extension of Mio, and they've both been working for a singular purpose. But Kotori can't wallow in depression, she has a fight to lead .

Mio and Reine fuse back and Mio regains her Astral Dress, turning into an angelic Holy Mother, the Mother of All Spirits, who finally restores Shido's memories of Shinji. All that has been driving her is her love for him and desire to be with him once more, but while Shido feels the same, he can't condone her methods...but Mio felt she had no other recourse, not wanting to live in a world without him and being beyond the scope of man in her feelings and power. And she's fully prepared to erase Shido in the process. But not if her daughters have anything to say about it !

Of course Shido gets transported into the school shelter and right on top of Yamabuki. He was born to be a lady killer, basically! But it was nice to see his school buddies come through and hold back the teacher (with Tonomachi getting off on it) so he can help out Tohka and Origami...and he finally exposes his power to them .

Nibeelcole REALLY wants to be relevant but Mio basically shuts her and the DEM forces down, but this is all what Westcott wants .

See AST, if you just talked with the Spirits for five minutes you could see they're just normal girls deep down and not worth trying to kill .

So Elliot, Westcott, and Ellen and her sister were from some kind of magic village that was burned to the ground and caused them to seek a solution to erasing humanity...which is where Mio came in. But Elliot had second thoughts and turned against them, and Ellen never forgave him for dragging her little sister with him .

It's Mio vs her daughters, but no matter how much of their strongest attacks they throw at her, she just shrugs them off. BUT NO! NOT KAGUYA !!!

I guess before Shido can face off against Mio, he has to face off against his nemesis, Westcott .

Kaguya also dying makes it obvious none of the deaths are going to stick. I expect all the girls to die and Shido saving the day by absorbing Mio's own power and redistributing their Sephiras to the girls. Although... looks like everyone who was hit by the flower's "pollen" instantly died so maybe it'll be time travel again instead.

Shido's resolve is impressive. It's rare you see a harem protagonist who loves every member of their harem so much. I'm thinking he measures up to Issei Hyoudou and Rentaro Aijo, maybe a little better since he doesn't go looking to collect more women.

So many of them clearly like one girl and only see the others as friends like Tsukune from Rosario + Vampire. Then you have the ones who show some inner conflict, but still have an obvious favorite like Rito from To Love Ru. Next, there's the kind who sees all but one girl as annoyances. At worst we have the harem protagonists who are too dumb to realize they even have a harem like Ichika Orimura and Touma Kamijou.

Makes me want to see Shido succeed and marry everybody. Other than the legality of it, I still think there's an issue, since he doesn't necessarily love them all equally. If I had to rank the girls based on how much "romantic" attachment Shido has to them, it would likely be as follows:

Tier 1: Tohka, Kurumi

Tier 2: Origami, Mukuro, Yoshino

Tier 3: Kaguya, Yuzuru, Miku

Tier 4: Nia, Natsumi, Kotori, Tenka//Inverse Tohka

Very strong "Thanos has to get the Infinity Stones" vibe.

Mio is competing for the role of the show's last boss.

Based on the past story, I think it is what happened. Mio could revive Shin, but she figures Shin will die again. So, Mio decides to build an immortal body for Shin. So, she sacrifices girls to make the result. She distributes her angels to girls. If girls fail to take in Mio's power, they became monsters. Then, Mio dumps them to her birthplace. It is the place where Kurumi was dumped in the movie Date a Bullet. Kurumi met girls who are semi-seirei. The finalist of the battle royal will become a a fully fledged seirei. Maybe it is a just false promise for those girls who failed to become seirei. Kurumi left the ringai without finding any useful information about Mio/Deus. Ten girls with mental scars became seirei. Some girls exceeded Mio's expectation. Nine girls shared half of their power with Shido. Kurumi hasn't shared her power with Shido. She promised to kiss him after the battle is over. It set a death flag for her. The rest of girls realizing what happened and started pick fight with Mio. Mio turns out too strong for them. Half of Nia's power was stolen by the enemy boss. So, taking away Nia's life may be meaningless for Mio.

I think only some seirei power is useful to counter Mio. If they work together, Kurumi can change flow of time, and Natsumi can render Mio's attack harmless. If Nia is still at her full power, she can read Mio like a book and rewrite the outcome. I guess they wouldn't do that because it is not JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

episode 5:

Tohka arrive just in time. Mio was about to erase "Shidou" memories, and leave only "Shin". That way, Shin won't feel bad if Mio kills all the other girls. She has a twisted way of solving things.

incredible strength being shown by Mio. She just stood there while being attacked with a sword, and block giant arrow with one hand. How are Tohka and the other girls gonna beat this thing?!

it seems Mio still show some respect for Kotori. At least for now, only The DEM ships are crashing.

Shidou rushing back to help, but first he has to defeat madman Ike.

looking forward to next week!

I don't think that's the reason, it's more like she thought of Shidou as a tool to create a perfect body for Shin. Now that it's apparently done, there is no need for Shidou anymore. He isn't the one she fell in love with.

One thing I really don't get is why she never attempted to kill Wescott, the guy who killed her beloved Shin. It's not like he could have done anything to stop her.

Because it gains her nothing. She easily could done it if she wanted, but it wouldn't mean a thing, since revenge is not her goal. Like she said in S4, she doesn't hate humanity, otherwise everyone would have died already.

She also probably tried to lie low because she knew Kurumi was after her so it was probably smarter not to move out in the open against Westcott even if she wanted to.
