They supposed to name the DDH class Izumo with old province name (like Izumo and Kaga).
So Houshou is out of question.

Well the Izumos are joining the Hyuga and Ise.

Kaga will replace the retiring Kurama, a Shirane-class helicopter destroyer. The last one that looks like a destroyer with a large deck space aft for helecopters, as oppose to the Hyuga and Izumos that, well look like aircraft carriers.

The Chinese were calling foal when Izumo came out as a carrier in disguise. They are going to go ballistic over as ship named Kaga.

Nagato might be a bit tricky, I think. The JMSDF had planned to name DDH-183 "Nagato". However, aside from being Yamamoto's flagship from where he commanded the Pearl Harbor attack, Nagato is also the old name for the Yamaguchi province, of which the current Prime Minister Abe is a native. To avoid being accused of rightism (thanks to Abe's antics), they settled for Izumo instead.

Especially since Kaga was one of the carriers that took part in bombing the Chinese during the Sino-Japanese war.

Don't let the destroyer tag fool you, the Izumo class is as big as the WWII Akagi and Kaga.

0.5m actually. IJN Kaga is 248m while JMSDF Kaga is 247.5m.

And besides, a helicopter destroyer is NOT a destroyer. It is an ASW oriented aircraft carrier - speed to hunt subs and helicopters to cover more search areas.

When jump jets move into fashion they become full-fledged modern carriers. Even if the F-35 becomes a classic failure like the F104 Starfighter, it still can carry drones loaded with SDBs and missiles - a nightmare for ships in a swarm.

Does it even have the capability to field jet aircraft? I didn't see any catapults on its flight deck. If all it will carry are helicopters, its role is nothing at all like a standard CV's, so I wouldn't think its really an offense-oriented ship.

It has different purpose. Helicopter Carrier is more geared toward Anti Submarine type of ship. So it can't contain Jet aircraft.
And I think, Japan is prohibited from having a CV.

And CV nowadays serves no purpose to Japan military strategy as they cannot wage wars on any country except for defense. So having a CV would be meaningless.

Anyway back to topic.

Many of the comments I came across so far in the Chinese forum all praise how lifelike the character models are, but I think the game mechanics looks great too.
