From what I understand, that chapter of the manga was done before Nasu shot himself in the foot by retconning Archer and Shirou's Tracing ability. It was left in the anime because it'd break the scene otherwise.

Yeah, if that is the case can see them just keeping it in. Can dance around it anyways with either the argument that Illya's unique status allows her to avoid the negative consequences or maybe it didn't. Illya survived long enough to basically take down Saber, but got knocked out in the process. She just held out long enough before the tracing limitations brought her down too. Though in reality it wasn't either of these, but at least you have some methods to spin around it.

In the end was still an awesome scene so either way I'm glad they kept it in there.

Yeah. I just always assumed Illya having a greater amount of mana made it possible for her to trace Excalibur. But yeah, I wouldn't expect Fate Stay night when watching this, especially with the second season.

Yes, Illya as Grail has access to infinite amount of mana. Whole fight was basically fake Excalibur with infinite mana vs. Black Excalibur from masterless corrupted servant. Thus why Illya overpowered her is obvious.

The same way Shirou manages to trace Excalibur in Heaven's Feel.

Excalibur can't be Traced because Nasu decided after putting in Archer claiming he can Trace it and Shirou actually doing so in Heaven's Feel that they shouldn't, because Saber needs to be that much more special, or something to that effect. It was a retcon. Not everyone is happy with said retcon, and it looks like some people had already made use of that lack of a limitation before the retcon was in effect. Like in Prisma Ilya.

Nasu did not write or supervise this, of course there will be some inconsistencies. And like I said earlier this is pretty much fanfiction, so just turn your brain off and enjoy the show.

He cannot trace Excalibur perfectly, but he can reproduce a knock-off that looks and shoots a beam of light all the same although a lot weaker. Archer explains this himself in UBW. It's not Excalibur per say, but for all intents and purpose it might as well just be.

As Nikoka said some things can't be traced perfectly, but you can always trace something that looks and work (to some extent) like original, but if such fake comes into confrontation with original it will be completely overwhelmed by this original. Unless, like Illya, you will have some own additional boost for it, because fake itself will never able reproduce exact power of original. And that's point.
