I just finished sharnoth and I had some questions

How were viola, Churchill, bram, and Henrietta relevant to Mary's development as a character? I might not be reading them correctly but those acts were sort of some of the weaker points of the game to me mostly because I can't figure out how they fit into the story besides being 2 of the 4 flames. I did like how all the characters were connected by their fear of tomorrow though especially with the gray sky in the background.

Are there any other things the story is trying to say or criticize besides never giving up?

I don't know much about Lovecraft, how much would I have missed from the plot for not knowing like 80% of his mythos. I didn't think it was too confusing and I googled a lot of the Lovecraft terms but just wondering.

Also, why does Mary get to keep her golden eye while charlie loses it?

Overall, it was a fun read but I'm sort of seeing why anitwitter doesn't rate it so highly in comparison to other steampunk games. Love the artstyle though. Also the ending was really cute with the swordfight, rejecting sharnoth, and getting a letter from M. So uh I guess I can just imagine that they get together at the end.

Not necessary all side characters in Sakurai's work contributes to the core plot and the MC.
She often give them their own story to work with.
In Sharnoth, Sakurai made sure to explore each of every character's fear.

But you are right this can maker her writing weak from time to time. This is most apparent in Valusia.


The two consistent theme in Sakurai's work is 1. Do not give up, and 2. Reach out with your right hand.

It seems a lot of people wanted M and Mary to end up together, romantically or otherwise.

I think that's because his true identity was never fully explained in Sharnoth. The most we got was the book given to Mary telling his story like a fairy tale.

When was M's true identity revealed for the first time? I know that in the full voice fandisc he talks about who he is and calls himself Nyarlathotep in a voice-only line, but I don't know if it was discussed before that.

I've read a lot out of order so I'm not sure when certain revelations were made for the first time.

Yes...her golden eye is one of Azathoth's remnants, the largest piece being Kadath's moon.

Aside from the games themselves, what is the most relevant material to get the gist of the story/on going plot? Because, from what I'm hearing, the series does have key info that doesn't appear in the games.

Teilhia, the Steampunk novel that Sakurai published only in doujin format will be finally be made in to a game as Liar Soft's next project.
But Sakurai is not writing it herself, just supervise!

Back in the days we were telling Sakurai to slap Haganeya in the face to get him working again.
But it is now the other way around. Can someone slap Sakurai and make her stop writing for Fate!

Sakurai isn't the nicest person privately. She had... Many problems with Liar staffs in the past. So I doubt they want to delay their project only because she is busy licking Fate franchise.
