He's normal. If you wanna see perverse, look at Reito. Drama CDs tell a much different side of him. :P

He's just a dude who loves Mai's bust. Hell, he looked at her wet shirt knowingly by ep ONE after Mai did CPR on Mikoto...which is the lowest that one can go...

I can safely say YES, he would still care for 'no-chest' Mai. He was trying hard to be there with SHIHO of all girls. If he could try that hard for her, Mai would be easy.

The manga is...seriously over the top.

We get a lot of outrageous situations. For example, EVERYONE at the academy is aware of Himes, orphans and child, and has no problems with the battles going on, and the rest of the world is either clueless or doesnt care o.O.

Mai and Natsuki accidentally summon their child, lovely plot device to force all 4 of them to live together. This is the only time it happened in the manga. At first, i thought if you touch the key it would get summoned involuntarily, but it later became clear it wasnt the case, which made the above scence fee like a blatant plot device.

Also consistency is...eh....a bit out of whack. For example we see a quite a few instances where a HiME summons a child without needing to physically touch a key.

Akane was near useless in the manga, even though she was perfectly capable to fight, she somehow never showed up at any of the battles, except for the pool one.

Natsuki as a tsundere was fantastic though.

Overall most of the characters seemed...a LOT less important...mikoto's role for example, was seriously downplayed. The focus was very much on mai, natsuki and tate. The searr's attempt to take over the academy was pretty short lived and wasnt anywhere near the level of threat it was in the anime. Natsuki's mother was a blatant plot device. Alyssa was a generic henchman . Shiho was basically "blah blah i love onii-chan HES MINE OH SHI- I GOT DEFEATED" and thats the end of her appearance.

The plot is a lot more straight forward, to the point where it is basically boils down to Himes vs Obsidian Lord. All the intrigue of the anime series that kept you constantly guessing is gone.

I found the first 2 QUEENs to be seriously over the top. Especially the whole "3 greatest young beauties" thing. God, was that cheesy.

Also, the blatant fanservice in the manga. I mean at least half the battles had clothes getting torn, sometimes to the ridiculous level(cough miyu cough). Theres a orphan that can dissolve clothes of girls it catches! I dont mind fanservice but throwing this much into the manga felt like it was a fanservice manga and was de-valueing the plot and action.

Yes, My-Otome Arashi is a sequel to the My-Otome manga with Manshiro. Why it's not mentioned on Big Bang is strange. And I think Yang Gui Fei from My-HiME could be one of Arashi's lackies here.

In one of the pages, it's made known that a large body of Garderobe (probably the lower rank Otome) does not know Mashiro is a he. And they're still trying to keep it a secret. And I doubt Arashi knows either because he calls him Princess Mashiro.
