I didn't mind the cliffhangers myself, though I guess I do agree with the observation about Maria. Then again, Maria really got the short end of the stick, because she was a character who had a single motivation, but didn't have the guts to carry out whatever she needed to do to achieve that. The end was... well, Maria Kart, as we all remember.
I think the bigger issue is that they still only had 1 cour and had to fit in a larger cast. Especially when the original trio still got a lot more character development, which could only mean that some of the new ones would end up suffering. That's one of the reasons why I'm curious to see how they'll handle S3 -- will Shirabe, Kirika and Maria come back, or will they let them go in order to bring some new characters to the table? With one cour there's a limit to how many characters one can fit, but then I'm not too sure if Symphogear could (and should) get a 2-cour thing going on. We were talking Nanoha here, and while I generally like StrikerS for the development the main characters got, the pacing suffered quite a bit. Not to mention the animation quality, of course. Didn't seem like they had enough budget for 2 cour, but still decided to go for it and... well, I'd rather not remember some of the worst cuts in that show.

To add to the above (for late-comers who are wondering what the fuss is about), about 20 posts were deleted for being off-topic. Please don't reply to off-topic or flamebait tangents; instead, simply report them and let the staff take action.

I do wonder what they might do cast wise. Honestly I do look at a series like Nanoha Strikers to see that the more you expand the cast the more trouble you can run into developing characters. We have the main cast, plus the trio introduced in season two. Depending on how involved those three are things could get packed especially if it's only one cour again. If they can get a good 20 something episodes from it then might not be bad to add some new characters.
Though I suppose it is tempting for them to keep adding characters. Since more characters can lead to more character songs and more CDs . Either way this time I'm going to try not to compare the new songs the moment I hear them . Last time I thought all the new songs didn't quite match up, but after some time passed actually do like most of the new songs from the second season. Some even more than the ones from season 1.

I think it will be 1 cour again. The annnouncement is too fast. I doubt element garden will have enough time to compose a new song for the new character. We already have 6 character with their own unique song (7 if you count miku) to deal with. I hope this won't be like nanoha strikers.(the third series of the show) If they want to add more character they must at least make the show into 2 cours to deal with the character interaction and development.. |

Wow, I was honestly surprised to see this get a third season, for a few reasons.
1. When the first season was airing I never heard anything positive about it. This is what made me surprised that it got a second season. 2. It seems that everything was wrapped up nicely at the end of the second season. 3. The announcement came rather fast. Didn't the second season just end? I only watched a few episodes of the first season so I can't comment on the quality myself. I guess it should be obvious from having the second season already that enough people liked this show to support it. I really need to look up some DVD/BD numbers. |
