They don't seriously expect to be scrapped, it's just a natural frightened reaction they have because the sound can be connected to scrapping in general. I'd compare it to someone usng his nails to scratch the whiteboard, it's very unpleasant.

Gotta love the way Naobou says curry. Hellllllllllllll yes, moar Yuubari too
Akagi’s & Kaga’s intro. and being checked up moment was great. Obvious end result too of course, if only Nagamon wasn’t the judge, poor Ashigara. Q______Q Spicier curry is always better damn it! Deliciously lewd. Dat thigh too... For some reason I was under the impression they wouldn't joke about such a thing in the anime, but it was done rather...tastefully with the Div 6 lolis. Quote:
I do wonder how last year's competition turned out. Would there have been a winner, or did everyone KO themselves...

Want to know why? It's because Admirals scrap Akatsuki Lolis (basically the duplicate copies they get) everyday in the game as they are all easy drops + easy daily constructions from 30/30/30/30, where we pretty much see them get KAN KAN KAN'd everyday for dailies lol.

The mention of kitakami's nikujaga amuses me.
While modern Japan considers nikujaga a traditional Japanese dish, so the story goes it was invented by IJN cooks at Kure naval base, all because of Admiral Togo, who was a fan of all things British, and one day had a hankering for beef stew. Having never actually seen beef stew or heard of it until that day, the cooks experimented and came up with nikujaga. Also, according to a family friend who was in the Royal Navy for over 20 years, curry is to this day a very popular dish in the Royal Navy.

It's an important lesson that one must consider the judge's preference in any competition. Although it might have been easier if she'd just let a rumor go around that mild would have a better chance to win.
At least it makes sense why the loli group was encouraged to keep fighting . Needed someone that wouldn't knock themselves out of the competition or present a super spicy curry for judging . Rookies who haven't got enough experience to come up with anything besides normal mild was her only hope . Good episode though . Was just nice to focus on this little group and have some fun. No matter how much time passes that song remains frighteningly catchy .

I really called it. Hiei was definitely involved in the episode.
That aside, it did show a lot of details from the game, although I didn't connect the hammering sound with the concept of scrapping. To me, though, the sharp sound of metal being hammered is painful to the ears. Seeing Hibiki put the upgraded cooking pot on her head absolutely killed me.

I liked getting to know the Destroyer Squadron, but other than that this ep. felt like it was just spinning its wheels just a bit.

Goodness, Shoukaku, are you putting on some weight? Could swear I saw some extra lines there. Not that I mind plumpness
Anyway, gotta say I'm surprisingly pleased with how this episode turned out, giving the lovely Akatsukis the spotlight, and at least to me, making Hibiki the best. I just couldn't hold a laugh when she popped up with the pot on her head I'm quite glad we didn't got any drama with them, which is ironic, since the 6th div actually has some of the best material for serious stories in their own history, but that would require to go full drama, as in "Everything you've ever loved is already gone" drama. I am a little disappointed Ikazuchi didn't get to spoil anyone silly, but I guess there are some things you really can't do without a proper admiral, but Hibiki saved it easily. Also, I'm not the most adequate person to bring this up, but this was the most reference filled episode in so far, and most importantly, we finally got to see the Akagi all the fans know and love (And Fubuki's surprisingly positive reaction, which was also hilarious) and Kaga fawning over her, much to a lot of people's delight, me included. Next week, the real tsunkaku time!? Just after we saw Kaga feed Akagi? B-But I don't Akagi to get NTR'd...but tsunkaku... |

There is a HUGE difference between being a dojikko and portrayed in fanon as having the luck of Fusou sisters, Lancer and Donald Duck. Shoukaku is portrayed by fans as the latter NOT the former.

Nagamon was in the Gendo pose almost the entire episode. It was weird, like they were going out of their way to make sure that everyone knew that it was an Evangelion reference. Then they had Mutsu standing to her side like Fuyutsuki to emphasize it more.

Wow every group was trying so hard to make it as spicy as much as possible and the judge prefers mild. Guess that she explains why she was pushing so hard for the Akatsuki's to not give up, anyone else wins she is screwed. Also loved how the Admiral was doing her best Gendo Ikari impression all episode.
Overall a fun episode that focused on a group that doesn't get much focus.

For people who don't know, NOT ALL kinds of curry are spicy. Most of the ones I ate are never spicy, and we don't only cover one side of the rice either; we pour it all over it. In fact, I don't really know why Japanese only cover one side of it...

With the announcement of an anime, I imagined all of it to be like this episode, comedy stories with a checklist of over the top character tropes pleasing fandom. The serious tone so far was actually a pleasant surprise.
So having now such a joke episode seems kind of out of place. But the episode was funny as hell, so I hope there will be at least one or two more. *still waiting for Nagamon* |
