Houshou, Hiryuu and Sounyuu are all drawn by the same designer as Akagi and Kaga (Shibafu). As for why they don't have chest protectors like Akagi and Kaga... *shrugs*

chest protectors cant contains dem chest, atleast for sounyuu XD

The important part is if they wear chest protection while using their bows. IIRC I've seen Akagi, Kaga, Zuikaku and Shoukaku using their bows, but not the others, and these four have all worn something to protect their breasts from the bowstring while shooting.

It's to symbolize that they are tough, it seems some cariers have insufficient protection... (no chestplates)
