I want to keep the reputation system for a while. It seems like it might be fun to have. We can always turn it off after it proves to be a problem.
And no. We didn't have the advert banners yesterday. Quote:
Ooooo! Sounds like someone's in trouble!

Ok... the little misunderstanding has been cleared up.
Anyway... let's see how the reputation system goes. If after a while it's considered a bad thing... I can always disable it again. Also, if you don't want to partcipate in the reputation system you can disable showing it by setting the option in the User CP. |

imo, the reputation system will probably do more harm than good. Is it really necessary to rate someone on their posts? If it is a bad/useless/offensive post, i trust that moderators will dish out reprimands like nobody's business.
Also, flame wars can be healthy sometimes to flush out all the idiocy.

Indeed, we did discuss the whole "post count" issue before the migration to the new forum software...On the whole I think that people were of the view that any visible number will attract redundant posts in order to raise it.
I'm generally against this kind of thing, but if GHDpro wants to stick with it, I'll hang back a bit |

I believe (I'm not certain) that neutral comes about from additional plusses or minuses to posts in the same thread. Does anyone else have a better idea of how it is calculated?

Well, the neutral ones are indeed plusses and minuses, but it has nothing to do with the thread.
When someone has less than 100 posts (I think) or less than 10 reputation points, his ratings get a 0 value. I'm not really sure how it's calculated exactly, but spammers and newbies have lesser reputation "power" than people who use the board longer and already have a good reputation, and that's where the "neutral" ones come from. |

NoSanninWa sneaks a peek at JAppi's rep
I wouldn't say that it has been a complete waste of time. Your rep is no lower than mine is. Would you believe that I actually got negative rep during the FFS-Naruto debacle? Just because I was the moderator on duty!
