In real life 1931 marked the year Japan started its military conquest across mainland eastern Asia with their invasion in Manchuria through the Mukden incident, which serves as a prelude to the World War II (or if combined together that would be the Fifteen Years' War).

See, this is where I'm going to have to start calling bullshit on this show. Yes, I get that it's a historical AU... but they're trying to have it both ways. Now, I admit that my specific details on the Meiji Revolution are murky (I haven't studied it that much in detail), but this would still be called Edo and even this late into the 20th century, as long as the Tokugawa Shogunate was in power, Western influence should've been at an absolute minimal- the whole point of the shogunate was to keep foreign influence out. It sounds like the show is trying to do "It's Edo, but with western influence"... which defeats the whole point of what Edo was. Only Gintama gets a pass here because it's comedy, and even there are times when Gintama makes me go, "WTF?" (which I suppose is the whole point of Gintama)

Unfortunately, being that this is an original anime, I have so many questions that will never be answered- such as, did the Black Ships still come? I assume yes; they helped start the Meiji Revolution but weren't the actual cause; how many treaties were actually ratified between the foreign powers and Japan? THAT was the real reason for the Meiji Revolution, after all

I'll give it a few more episodes before I decide if this anime is full of too much bullshit or not to watch- this is what happens when Japanese history is actually a very important subject to me (despite not knowing all the little details)

It was the first episode and this was hardly the best foot forward.

I don't get it. Was the guy just an unfortunate passerby or actually involved in some illegal business? Really could've used more detail about this changeling thing.

After the guy tried (and failed) to flirt with Sawa, he said that he's going off to a job interview. We can easily assume that whatever job he was applying to was actually a way to get random people for those mutant beasts and the guy was an experiment or at least a fall guy for their operation.

The pseudo-laser sword thing and the naked henshin transformations covered by white beams (which aren't there in the trailers) are two scenes censored on Crunchyroll's request (and I'm assuming it's done on Ani-One Asia streaming as well), maybe the Japanese broadcast on Nippon Television will show them uncensored this time.

Still pretty stylish with one single-mindedly murderous lead. Needs to pick up steam a bit though.

I was confused by the "Confidential File" numbers in the titles. I thought they indexed time like the case numbers in Princess Principal, so I expected this episode to be chronologically before last weeks. instead the numbers appear to represent entries on the "roster," so that "the treasurer" is file number 033.

Ooh, this is that one anime whose description reminded me of Kill Bill.

I think it was okay, first episode. I like the art style, and I guess the story has potential, even though it really is just a bunch of people with superpowers fighting each other, in the end. A couple of side-characters, partner-in-crimes with super physical abilities too.
Considering how barren this season is on most days, I think it is at least worth a try.

Ah yes, when the crossdressing girl reveals herself to be a female and from then on, she is drawn more feminine.

Anyways, I kinda expected a "There was no real Snake Eyes and the guy who took her in was the mastermind" thing, but it looks like there really is one after all.

Janome feels less like a big bad now and more of a fall guy. It's possible that Janome himself isn't the one responsible for the massacre, and someone else was setting up something big related to the Karasumori Clan.

Jin comes to mind. He's really suspicious now to me.

I figure Janome did not actually kill the villagers. He said he used to work for the government so he probably swooped in at the end of a government kill order to pick up the pieces. Which is where he got the brother.

Also, that traitor... double-traitor... girl... I'm not really sure what she was about. They kinda gave a reason, but I have no thought on that.

Also, that snake monster thing was really lame. It was like it came from Gibiate.

To be honest, with the group killing every single person that has tried to leave it, I'm pretty surprised the little girl managed to fool them into actually thinking she died and then get away with it. I totally expected someone to pop up while she was digging in the dirt and kill her.
