The new adaptation is scheduled to last around 100 episodes, it would seem. After the current episode is when things start heaten up.

The old anime adapted out ten volumes in 46 episodes, which is not even a hundred chapters of the manga. It felt tedious at times, the music was easily the most memorable part.

I have mixed feelings about the animation suddenly switching to CGI during Dai's fight against the armor.

There were some awkward moments, like the grandpa taking the time to explain how Dai beat the armor instead of rushing to cure the dying princess.

I'm thinking that it's not bad but it's not good either, I read that it will get really good in the future but I hope it's not that long in the future.

That was CGI? It was so smooth I barely noticed.

Training episode already. Not much to say about it, it wasn't a bad watch.

Not a bad episode. For a training episode it actually went pretty well. Was kind of nice seeing Dai getting stronger. It was quick and thankfully for that reason it didn't feel like it was taking too long. Heck things should be continuing to advance quickly with how this one ended.

Plus kind of works anyways since Dai is pushing himself. Can't afford to take a slow route. Not if he wants to help the people he cares about before it is too late. And quite literally he can't take the slow route with the threats heading his way...

Magic portrayed in this anime looks really good
I especially like the animation of Avan crushing Iora with his one hand.

Blame localization

The spells' names sound so much better in Japanese.
In English, on the other hand, we have Bang, Boom, Crack, Swoosh, Squelch, etc.

That's why I'm grateful for having read the manga and still remembering the original name of every single spell. I mean, Puff, seriously? Who thought it was a good idea?

That was a pretty cool episode. I agree the spells look great. I thought the mentor was already going to kick the bucket, but perhaps not going by the preview.

From the title, I think he is gonna die and pass down something to Dai.

Well, RIP Avan. You could certainly see it coming, but at least he gave everything he had right till the end. A frustrating thing that even with his last gambit he couldn't take that guy out. But, I suppose blowing yourself up rarely works in this kind of show. Sure, if Dai could have activated his powers sooner then maybe they could have gotten out of there alive. But, with something like that it will take time before he even has any concept of what it is much less being able to switch it on at will.

Now the journey begins. They need to stay ahead of this guy until Dai can get strong enough to beat him decisively. Although it might be helpful that this guy is obsessed with going after Dai since that should keep his army from focusing exclusively on conquering.

Like gohan his powers only comes out when he is really mad, well is better that way because he is too OP in that state and having it since beginning would just ruin the adventure and training he need to do.

It took the old anime around eight episodes to get to this point, the pacing in the new adaptation is miles better in comparison. And the animation quality is outstanding, as is the narrative. They even showed in this episode a very early appearance of a particular character who won't make her debut til approximately one year after.

This is the fastest I've seen a mentor die. He's only known Dai three days

That was a great episode regardless.

Well I guess super intense and quick training will hurry along the 'mentor must die' part as well...

Suppose he had to die that quickly since if he completed the training Dai could just stomp the last boss within a week .
