Wow, I hadn't figured Yuzuki to be that insecure, but I guess she was hiding it all this time.

I had the wrong mother. For some reason I thought it was a mysterious message from the past sent by Shirase's mom.

It's a fairly common theme about young idols, that their private lives are sad because they don't have normal relationships and are pushed in front of cameras all the time. I don't know how accurate this portrayal is, but it probably reassures the audience members who wish they, too, could become idols.

I'd be curious to hear what someone like Aoi Yuuki thinks of this meme.

I want to give Yuzuki all the hugs.

They're in one of the warmer less cold parts of Antarctica, and it's the summer. There are much colder places than Syowa Station, but our girls probably aren't going to visit them.

TIL that the "5 meters" line in this episode was actually referring to a provision in the Antarctic Treaty, namely that you cannot be closer than 5 meters away from penguins, hence why Hinata was trying to prevent Shirase from getting too close.

Apparently the five-meter distance is just an advisory. It's not carved in stone. Obviously, if a penguin walks over to you, as they do sometimes, you don't have to run away from it or anything.

The Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty prohibits interfering with any of the wildlife in Antarctica. In a documentary I saw recently, they said that even if there's a seal that's wandered away from the ocean and is going to die on the ice, they can't help it out. They just have to let nature take its course.

Watched episode 10:

Another good episode... must have been really a sad life for Yuzuki-chan... so this is the first time friends celebrated her birthday. Nice to see that she really is happy when seeing the cake they made for her. No need for the "friendship contract" because they are already friends. ^^

Well, with such secluded, isolated ecosystems, protecting them from external interference and contamination is a pretty big deal. Imagine if you carried a flu virus that can be transmitted to birds and that penguins have no immune defences against.

I mentioned before that Antarctic tourism is becoming so big in China that the government had to issue a specific directive not to touch the penguins.

I see true creatures from Antarctica are definitely not used to humans, so the treaty makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

News that is sure to make these girls happy. We've found another million penguins!

Satellite images and a drone discovered about 1.5 million Adélie penguins living in the Danger Islands, just off the end of the “thumb” of Antarctica, below South America, one of two species whose habitats require ice.

Let’s not tell Shirase this, her goal might change.

I admit this wasn't the best episode, but that final bit with Yuzuki got me good. I'd say she needs a hug, but Kimari's got that covered. On that note, I did like to have another episode that focuses on her, and that bit with the penguin was hilarious and adorable. So was Hinata and Kimari looking for a defrosting spot. This show always nails the small moments.

Who says you can't have only one goal?

You say that like it would be enough to stop Shirase.

Shirase's ultimate fantasy. Well, if she had enough willpower to hold still, anyway.

Spoiler for YouTube clip:

Cousteau would have been even more successful communing with the penguins if he had thought to bring along some cute Japanese high-school girls.

I forgot that Rod Serling narrated these shows.

This episode was so good. Shirase and Hinata have the most adorable friendship.

Mari, you were warned to keep your face covered, weren't you? This is why.

This was really good. From their starting point as strangers merely working together to travel to the same place, these girls have forged a really strong friendship.

Arg... I wanted to hug Hinata so much in this episode...

I agree, I love those two together (I’m not talking romance here). They did so well with Hinata’s past and the bonding that she’s doing with everyone currently, I really wish they were able to do so with Yuzuki but unfortunately it didn’t turn out nearly as well.
Another great episode looking forward to the next one!

I'm really glad they showed more of Hinata's past. Every main character so far in this show really shines in their own way so far. This anime really got me invested in its character cast tbh.
