What about the Mk. II from Zeta? Or are you saying that the G-Self will be it for the entire series? Well, I suppose it might be like that if it's only around 26 episodes.

Ooh, there's also the Freedom from SEED.

I doubt the space pirates are antagonists. This might just be Tomino's attempt to have Crossbones Gundam animated.

So I think it'll be more like Judau jacking the Zeta and then eventually joining up with the crew.

I'm not surprised by the timeslot though. Did anyone actually think that Sunrise would target a Tomino-made Gundam show to children? Wasn't happening this day and age. Build Fighters is filling that niche just fine. Tomino always says his shows are aimed at children but I don't think he makes the decisions these days.

But Tomino's right about one thing... This is a Gundam show in name only. The whole backstory with space pirates and stuff seems un-Gundam-like. Plus the main mecha isn't even a Gundam (its a "G-Self")
Yeah, it definitely feels like Tomino is using the Gundam brand name and the anniversary to draw attention to what was once an original Mecha work. I also wouldn't be shocked if that's also partially reason it's set between the UC and Turn A when Tomino likely has no intention of connecting Reconguista to his other Gundam series'.

Though I could see an old person on the show, or maybe one of the antagonists, eventually referring to the G-Self as a Gundam in-series or maybe calling it a descendant of that "legendary Mobile Suit."

That female space pirate is quite the looker .

I'm liking the Mecha designs so far, even if I'm not crazy about the Gundam's design, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in animation .

Oh yeah, forgot about the Mk.2 if it's reverse Gundamjacking.

The Freedom though didn't get jacked until midway, so there's that.

The grayish G Self in the number 3 sketch reminds me of Exia.

Sure, but you did mention main gundam, and the Freedom is a main gundam.

Since you brought that up, I remember an interview were he basically alluded to his claims that his shows were made for kids to be so that sponsors would be willing to fund his shows...

I guess after Victory they finally figured it out, lol.

Nah she was just being stupid at the time, after all, who's crazy enough to hand over a WMD to a kid?

Is he also responsible for the color-composition of the mechas? Because the unrefined color-composition of the G-Self reminds me a lot of the Knightmares in Code Geass with clashing-color wing/backpack that hurts my eyes, like these examples:

Thank god they improved in Code Geass R2 and made the colors of the mechas blend better than the previous series.

Then again, this thing still appeared in R2 and managed to make the previous bad color-composition even worse:

Not sure if he designed the Sutherland, but the Lancelot was most certainly him.

Start with Bright Noa and work your way to the present.

Considering the franchise, not to mention the kid in this particular instance, that's not a very relevant/useful statement to make.

Even this new series will likely have a kid be given some powerful weapon.

Different circumstances may be more or less believable though. White Base didn't have any capable pilots and Amuro was the only one who could do anything with the Gundam.

Whereas Lacus just gives a billion dollar prototype machine with a technology that if fallen to enemy hands would cause thousands of nukes to be launched at PLANT to a random enemy kid that she had only previously interacted with for a few hours.

To be fair, it was more like days, given the length of his recovery. This is still very, very poor justification on her behalf.
