Well, what the devs did say is that ASW equipment will be important in the first half of the event (aka the first three maps). I'm not sure where the talk about Taiyou being that important comes from but they did say ships capable of ASW (like DDs) and properly equipped will do just well. As far as I'm concerned, it could be just alarmist talk.

Btw according from info gathered from the Grand Fleet Tour performance on 30 April, it seems that Taiyou has a cute voice like Ogura Yui. Whether her VA is Miss Ogura or not wasn't said though.

The weaponry looks like those on the kaibokan. Our first kaibokan girl, I think? And by Akira too, this should be good >=3

Going by clothes it could be another Kamikaze(minus the bracers), with a bit fantasy you could even say that she is holding the heck. However the cannons would be largely exaggarated then

Maybe one of the Seaplane tenders that participated?

That is if she is a Japanese ship, and not a chinese or russian one that wasn't announced (think back to Libeccio).
Going by the cannon it could also be a light cruiser - really hard :/

Oh yeah right those were annoucned too - do you have a specific one in mind though? The main turrets I could find are more high angled and open(to the back) than this one.

E2: Imho what makes this hard is whatever she is holding there, as the hull's form imho suggests its a rear end of a ship.

Someone mentioned Kamoi in the Bahamut forums. This could be her before she was re-modeled into a seaplane tender (note the squarish structure on her back and in the wiki photo of her during the 1920s).

Yeah as said it could be one of the seaplane tenders (or oiler if she is pre- seaplane tender)
The 5 inch gun would be really exaggarated in this case though, anf the bow far too wide.
If you take it as highly exaggarated you can even imagine the gun not being fully enclosed, which would fit the bill for a lot of the early ships.

Wonder if they'll make use of the fact that she was built in the US, specifically by the same shipyard that also created Saratoga (CV-3).

Also, her design is so Ainu inspired.

1. Coastal Defense Ship Kunashiri is a drop.
2. Kamoi can remodel between Fleet Oiler and Seaplane Tender forms without using blueprints.
3. Taiyou requires a Prototype Catapult for remodeling. One will be provided as an event reward.

Besides Kunashiri, the other kaibokan will be Shimshu, also a drop. Kunashiri is available from the 2nd map onwards, Shimshu and Kamoi from the 3rd map onwards.

I'm not sure if it's a typo or not but "Kasuga-maru" was used in the dev's tweet about Taiyou being the reward for clearing the 3rd map

There'll apparently be one more ship that should be available in tomorrow's EO's, Escort Ship Etorofu. Yes, they're introducing two Escort ship classes in this event.

And the kaibokan's style also seems very familiar somehow. Where have I seen this, hmmmmm..... =/
