Obviously the father going insane was mostly his own problem. He chose to go down that road and frankly he got what he deserved. Unable to accept his sons, unable to accept the death of his wife, and ready to burn the world to ashes because he was pissed off.
Though I do think it's good that Alan kind of sees his own part to play in that. It would have been one less thing for his father to lose it over if he just was open about being the reincarnation of a hero. Then at least there'd be no question that his mother's gift did fulfill it's purpose.
Regardless...that's all settled. The brother got properly embarrassed and the father got killed off as he deserved to be. Crossed far too many lines to survive this.
