The interspecies thing wasn't what made me think it was weird. It was the fact that they are there against their will. Usually the harem protags will collect aren't formed of people who were kidnapped. Surprising, really, as you see
slave harems pretty regularly. I guess buying/owning people is less problematic for Japanese fantasy writers versus using force to subdue them heh.
