One thing that amused me - Kaina's "bark cutter" looks like the guns from my favorite childhood TV show,
Space: 1999 
Alas, the guns on
Space: 1999 didn't have a "supernova" setting.
I wasn't as enamored of the world-building as others in this group. Too many scientific inconsistencies. The war storyline just made things worse.
