I argue that it's partially because he can't relate to how important he is to others because no one else is that important to him. Look at how he felt about losing his memories in GT 1. He literally didn't care. That's only possible if he doesn't mind the possibility of not remembering something he used to really value imo.
Like, I'd argue that Touma is a good person, but psychologically is a little messed up, lol.
