I prefer non-harem. You can have lots of cute and strong girls in a novel without making 3 or more of them liking or attracted to the MC romantically. An example of that is Kenja no Mago. Also, having many side couples also helps to add the number of female character that act cute in front of the men they like without having to feature a harem for the MC.
Many people in Japan are also tired of harem novels, and some would rather read a novel where all the characters are females than one where the MC gets a harem.
