Favourite Lyrics
Hey everybody I was just listening to one of my favourite songs and I was just struck by how awesome its lyrics were. I did a search of the music forums and didn't find a thread devoted to lyrics, so I wanted to create this thread! Lyrics are a huge part of songs for me and I feel like good ones are pretty scarce nowadays. Share your favourite lyrics! Here are a few of my favourites.
Spoiler for phantom by Fukuyama Masaharu:
He has become strong, striving constantly to seize everything,
Searching endlessly for the power to take over all good and evil
A deeply deformed past, and countless betrayals have transformed him
He has become an Asura, he will never come back to this place, he was sworn to that
Family bonds and blood linkages are all hindrances, he has discarded them
To deceit and sin, he no longer feels pain
To friendship and sacrifice, he no longer looks back
To the wilderness he goes, to the ends of his desires
Challenging the ghost of his great father
It was once an endless battle
His mother's love, like wings embracing and protecting him
The last testament to his humanity
The last.......
A thirsty heart, but no-one is there anymore
Ice cold lips, but they seek no-one and accept no-one
He has gained power, but he continues on his journey, without end
As if he fears not to lose anything again
Without a shred of love, he goes on his way.
Poetic and haunting, I love the epic picture it paints in my mind! I imagine a lone samurai standing alone in a misty mountain or something...
Spoiler for Michishirube by Fukuyama Masaharu:
I like those hands, living this simple life everyday,
To bring us up into adulthood, I like your hands.
Showered by rain, they kept working on,
sowing each seed one by one,
You must have had to give up your dreams,
yet you always showed me your smile
We meet with Love; believe in Love; get hurt by Love,
We despise Love; then forgive with Love and learn how to Love
I was battered by wind, confused and in doubt,
Along my path, your smile showed me the way
I like this sea, this long and curving route,
Along the shore where you were born and grew up.
Coming here, I feel my regrets have eased
Not stopping when hurt, not concerned even in pain,
you said Success is the way
As I strive to move on through failure, I see your kindness
We meet with People; believe in People; get hurt by People,
We despise People; then forgive People and learn to understand People
I was battered by wind, in tears or laughter,
Along my path, your smile showed me the way
When I am battered by wind, I race on,
you showed me how to survive
I like these hands. Look! They look like your hands,
I like those hands of yours which brought us up into men
Nostalgic and beautiful...
Spoiler for Daybreak's Bell by L'arc~en~Ciel:
Hey, is there any other way I can meet you? It's sad.
I don't want you to get hurt, even if it kills me... please.
Even if our fate gets engulfed into the sinking sea.
Please, ride the winds and ring the daybreak's bell
Like a bird, my wish is over their airspace
Cross the countless waves and face tomorrow
I will protect you, my life I trade in for your pain
Stop the wars.
Hey, why do people keep repeating their mistakes?
I loathe this blood, flowing in people who haven't made any progress.
Fighting each other with flames, in this land that belongs to no one.
If a clear future comes, even flowers
dwell in weapons. My wish is over their airspace.
Someone, please wake me up from this nightmare
It this dream comes true, My life I trade in for your pain
How much will I have to pray for it to reach the sky?
Now, the morning glow shines on the oceans and on me.
Please, ride the winds and ring the daybreak's bell
Like a bird, my wish is over their airspace
Cross the countless waves and face tomorrow
I will protect you, my life I trade in for your pain
Flap your wings and don't turn back, take my thoughts with you, and fly into the skies.
Wishes can't be brought down by anyone.
Again, it's haunting and beautiful stuff.
I like Japanese song lyrics a lot but there's the downside of getting translated... that's why I prefer just seeing them in their original language
