Well, if you're familiar with Fate/stay Night, you know that Shirou is also not a strong character (meh he was unreasonably overpowered AND underestimated in UBW...).
While the other characters were mostly superior physically, magically and in weapon while he had his normal-guy-body and some incomplete weapon copies, his moves in the PSP game Fate/Unlimited Codes are just as good as all the other characters.
Why I mention the Fate franchise is because this game reminds me of F/UC though obviously it's not identical in gameplay.
I hope the comboing is around as versatile as in F/UC.
