na, digisubbing only became possible around that time period. Before hand the fansubs ppl were dling online were captures from the VHS fansubs. The first digisubs were .rm format, but digisubbing didn't really catch on until DivX3.11 and SBC encoding. The DivX 3.11 codec allowed for better encodes, wasn't restricted to a certain player, way less of a resource whore, and most of all, divx was free while .rm was not, you always ended up paying somehow lol >.>.
