Closed captions archive

http://transportstreams.org/captions/

Go hog wild.

Pre-emptive FAQ

Where do you find these?
You probably shouldn't be asking that.

You don't have captions for <my favorite series>, can you get them?
No. Either I don't get that series or it doesn't have captions. Either way, tough for you.

You're missing episode X from series Y, can you get it for me?
No.

Can I get transport streams from you?
No. Asking on this forum would be a rule violation anyway. I'm not even sure this thread is OK.

Can I-
No.

How is the archive updated and when?
Automatically, usually within 45-60 minutes after the show's first airing has ended.

What are all those numbers in the filenames?
month-day_hour-minute-second

The folders have really inconsistent naming and the files don't have episode numbers, what's up with that?
I'm lazy. Don't expect it to get fixed.

I can't read those .txt files, are they corrupted?
No, they're just UTF-16. Tell your browser/text editor about that and it'll work.

Why are you doing this?
E-penis. And potentially better fansubs, I guess.

I want to contribute!
Contact me on IRC, TheFluff on Rizon. A PM here is fine too, I guess.

K, bracing for an epic thread.

JEEB 2010-04-17 20:40

Very nice to have an open collection of this. Not that I personally would have much need for it, but overall it should help those people who still have no knowledge of how to get closed captions from the transport streams themselves (or just happen to not be able to get the transport streams quickly enough when needed) :)

Not to mention that overall there was a need for a database like this.

Tranquility 2010-04-17 20:50

Yeah, nicely done, and lightty has one sexy dir listing =P

Timers are going to be out of job, no ? :O

Not really, the timing on these is usually pretty shoddy and you have to shift it a lot anyway because you cut out all the commercials and stuff. They're mostly useful for translators.

Zergrinch 2010-04-18 07:57

Awesome, a Japanese version of Addic7ed.com (well, sort of!). Now to add wiki-type software, and timers AND editors will be out of jobs :D

If only everyone (who don't understand Japanese) stopped watching anime. Then translators will be out of "jobs" (loljobs) and we can simply move on.

Quarkboy 2010-04-19 08:28

Could you do me a favor and upload these about 4-5 days _before_ airing?

It would make my job a lot easier in some cases...

TheFluff 2010-04-19 10:06

oh Quarkboy you card
I would if I could :[

Actually there have been cases where I've gotten printouts (scanned) of the closed captions in lieu of actual scripts for official translation.

Only for dramas, though, not for anime.

Shouta 2010-04-27 03:55

Well, this will help immensely Fluff. Now for a series I want to do to come out.

Aegd 2010-06-18 17:57

Awesome work!

I've started timing some of your closed captions and releasing them together with the appropriate raw. I've done some episodes of heroman and the latest FMA. The episodes can be found on tokyotosho and nyaatorrents. If anyone would help with timing other episodes and series, contact me and i'll give you instructions on how to time and how to put the files in a .mkv container.

These releases are mostly for japanese learners, and I suppose they can be of some use for fansubbers, but I'm not that worried about getting them out super fast, since I'm doing it mostly for my own enjoyment and to help japanese learners.

I thought EF was responsible for these closed captions, so I gave them credit for the first couple of releases, so I'll help in your quest to grow the most glorious e-penis on the net, and start giving you credit starting from the next release.

Jokes aside, I really appreciate the work your doing and that there's finally a good source for closed captions, and I'll keep visiting your page daily for as long as you keep it alive :)

The archive has moved to http://transportstreams.org/captions/ and is now under the management of Elitist Fags. The old location will redirect to the new one for a while, but updating your bookmarks is preferred.

Danodare 2010-11-20 09:48

It seems elitist fags has stopped providing closed captions on their website. Will anyone replace them ?

As a japanese learner, these were invaluable to me... the only alternative is to search through dozens of japanese blogs for every single word that I cannot catch by ear :/

Thanks in advance for any help on getting closed captions,
-Danodare

tantei okuoku 2010-11-20 16:55

ya I was really hoping to see if they had captions for kindaichi shonen no jikembo, kodocha, or yakumo this seems like something that could be a big help

ElitistFags: Closed due to drama

matteas 2010-11-21 08:29

Right, since ElitistFags have shut down completely, thus cutting off the access even to previously released CCs, I'm crying for help. Does anybody have CCs or the .ts files for episodes 25 and 26 of K-ON!!? Please, drop me a PM if you could send them to me or point me to somewhere where I could get it. Thanks a lot.

EDIT: I've got them.

blakbunnie27 2010-11-21 09:40

Contrary to popular belief, this should increase the quality of translations in the subs.

May I ask what makes you think so? I can't think of anything to base this reasoning on.

translators should now be watching and listening to the episode, instead of just looking at the closed captions like used to be possible?
