Kenka Dokugaku (Viral Hit)

Kenka Dokugaku aka Viral Hit is getting an anime adaptation, coming in Spring 2024

Synopsis from Myanimelist

Quote:

Bullied by his classmate and popular Newtube streamer Pakgo, Yoo Hobin's high school days are filled with humiliation and abuse. His troubles don't end there though; outside of school, Hobin slaves away at a part-time job to pay for his mother's hospital bills. One day, Hobin accidentally spills ramen on Pakgo's cameraman "Jiksae," tripping over a cord and disconnecting the other boy from his gaming stream. Finally fed up with his miserable lifestyle, Hobin fights back and ends up in a pathetic brawl with Jiksae.

The next morning, it is revealed that the camera from Jiksae's stream had been recording the two boys' entire embarrassing fight. Moreover, the footage was accidentally uploaded to Newtube and had gone viral overnight, earning Hobin a whopping ten million won from viewership.

Drawn to the money Newtube streaming can offer him and his mother, Hobin works together with unlikely ally Jiksae to produce more videos of him fighting and see how far Newtube streaming can take them. Taking on bullies like Pakgo and other seemingly unsurpassable opponents, Hobin will either rise to the top of the streaming world or finally meet a foe he can't outsmart.

It's a long series. I guess manwha is really trying to break through to animation.

I dropped the series because it was dragging, but I'll definitely check out a few episodes.

Same here, though I doubt I got as far as you might have :heh:. I do like the concept though, so depending on how fast... or slow, they adapt the material and how well they explain and animate the strategies, it may keep my interests this time =03.

Interesting premise. The bullied kid has a unfortunate background, and I couldn't believe he let the camera guy into his home in the first place. But I guess that was the set up for the plot moving forward as camera guy proposes a partnership (albeit unfair), only to be surprised by the bullied kid's savvy negotiation. Both can benefit from this partnership, while trying to secretly take advantage of the other. Interested to see how the short girl will play a role later on.

while the bullying always bother me, it's good that karma was paid quickly in the same chapter and this was really good and the next look even better going after that idiot pakgo.

the content is good, calling out bullies. Everybody loves to see bullies get what they deserve.

I enjoy the series, only 'cause of the bullying arc.

I've been there. I too have raised my fists on more than one occasion.

The MC is getting bullied, but looks like he isn't a shining good guy either. He's just as keen to take advantage of someone he has a leg over, even if the one here was his former tormentor. And he's doing it all for money anyway. Even if he has reasons. Its not like he's calling bullies for justice, its for clout and money.

Yu Ominae 2024-04-12 21:03

Half and half on that.

Agreed that Hobin's motivation for getting likes and money isn't good.

OTOH, his mom's in the hospital and his dad's out of the picture AFAIK.

you can't go wrong with sugita being a fighting teacher wearing a chicken mask, it makes all the sense of the world.

I'm liking this more and more, that ending was hilarious.

"Welcome to viral hit!", he said the thing!

Yu Ominae 2024-04-17 22:11

Yusuke decided to find a way to make money, so he becomes Ssamdak.

grecefar 2024-04-24 18:33

Sugita is just too awesome in that chicken mask. Looking foward to the others videos.

Honesty saved the day and it worked with bomi but he just dug another grave after that and of course the hot mma fighter has to be the childhood friend of bomi to make things worse to hobin.

I do hope that it's just childhood friends and that kim is a true bro in the end to hobin.

Yu Ominae 2024-04-24 22:06

The show got an English dub now.

grecefar 2024-05-01 20:11

that was pretty hard to watch until the end.

what is worse than a failed youtuber?, a youtuber that failed twice. After this pakgo would need to disappear forever.

Yu Ominae 2024-05-02 09:03

I like how Sugita voices Ssamdak with an accent just to show that he's a foreigner.

And the dub's... strange. Using Korean names, but using things from Japan.

So our little MC had to get a real beating to finally decide to make a change for himself. Inspired by Chicken Head, I hope he put the time off from school to train hard and build himself up both mentally and physically. Let's see next episode whether it pays off.

Short girl in shades will no longer cry.

Bullies suck. It's not just the physical pain but all the mental anguish they inflict. When your whole world is your school and everyone around you, it can feel like there's no escape from the laughter, making fun of, shame etc. Most kids don't know how to separate these thoughts at that age and society needs to do a better job of providing resources and outlets for kids to overcome these hurdles.

As we grow older, we hopefully learn how to compartmentalize and not feel the shame of what others think of us. Who cares right? But only the mentally strong can do that. Many of us probably still remember instances in school where someone did or said something harmful and it's been living rent free in our heads ever since.

So I hope this anime sheds a light on how bad it can be and if someone needs help, help them! Don't just be a bystander and record it on a phone. Take them aside and really try to provide them with safety, encouragement, and hope. The world is bigger than just the school halls. There is a lot more to see and do past school years.

grecefar 2024-05-08 18:56

it Munseong has watched Mr. Chicken videos too. To be honest I thought he was the one who was commenting in the viral hit videos when Hobin does something good. Maybe is Mr. Chicken who does it?

great way to destroy pakgo and he is finished, happy ending. Now he need to make up with bomi.

Yu Ominae 2024-05-09 11:13

Yes! I love Ssamdak.

That's what I always found weird about manhwa and Korean animation; despite the rise in popularity of Korean manhwa and webtoons no one there has been able to take advantage of it to jumpstart their own domestic animation industry.

Instead the Koreans tend to commission Japanese animation studios to do it for them, and sometimes even Chinese ones (surprisingly the Chinese have been able to jumpstart their own donghua industry on their own efforts).

grecefar 2024-05-15 18:41

I got two suprises in this chapter, the first was gaeul was the one behind the comments in the videos and the second one was that it was them looking for the bullies.

then again they went against someone who is kind of way out of his league, but for the looks of it Mr. Chicken got it cover with "How to beat someone who knows taekwondo".

magnumcyclonex 2024-05-17 03:18

How will they get out of fighting a true psychopath who was formerly trained in taekwondo?
