Saw this on Twitter and social media. It looks like a new project titled Grendizer U is in development.

Classic Mecha lives again :eyespin:.

Finally, after 50 years...! Grendizer looks amazing. I wonder if this is going to be a tie-in to the Infinity timeline or its own thing.

Somewhat related, but there's also a Grendizer action game slated for release in late this year, so that's one more for 2023 being the year of the UFO revival.

Seriously though, why did this show have to wait half of a century to get a single piece of animation when Mazinger got like 2 or 3 reboots in the same timeframe...

I was actually wondering the same thing. Mazinger Z got a lot of OVAs and reboots but nothing ever happened with Grendizer until now.

Grendizer is super popular here (localized as "Goldorak"), in fact the upcoming video game is being made by a French studio.

...I don't like the vibes I'm getting from this lineup... Also Nagai's comment being barely 2 lines in length and the most vague thing ever doesn't give me hope that he's extensively involved in this project...

so is Kouji Kabuto being a Mazinger Z pilot in the past going to be referenced in this show?

Kouji is confirmed to show up. His design art is already out.

I remember hearing that Grendizer is supposedly the least popular of the Nagai super robots in Japan but I don't have sources to confirm that.
Even Mazinger fans like myself can have it though depending of what version you like since Koji gets all the love while Tetsuya and the Great Mazinger are usually either absent or side characters.
Anyway, I'm not 100% convinced about this project yet but more super robot anime are a good thing.

I was in pre-school watching this, so I kind of lost any plot aside from big piloted mecha fighting bad aliens.

Hope I won't need background info to dive into this.

It looks cool and I love Mecha, but I wonder how new viewer friendly this will be for anyone who isn't experienced with Mazinger Z.
